Mediseekers
work with the Bangkok Orthopaedic Center which has the specialists and
the latest technology necessary to treat a wide variety of orthopaedic
conditions effectively. Orthopaedic ailments commonly treated include
arthritis, osteoporosis, fractures, dislocated joints, bone spurs,
chronic back pain, herniated lumbar discs, and sports injuries.
Lower back pain is among the most common disabilities facing society. It is estimated that 60% to 80% of the adult population have experienced lower back pain once during their lives.Back pain is usually found during the working years. Individual
activities with repetitive bending or prolonged exposure to stooping,
sitting, or vibrational stresses appear to be the cause of occurrence.
Spinal
conditions also frequently require treatment. Injuries or old age
sometimes cause a disc between vertebrae to herniate, causing the
protruding disc to press against nerves which then leads to radiating
pain, numbness, tingling and diminished motion. When therapy and
non-surgical procedures are inadequate, surgery is sometimes required.
Arthroscopy,
a minimally invasive surgical procedure, is frequently employed. Here,
a thin tube with a viewing device is inserted into a joint through a
small incision. The physician can then diagnose conditions and/or treat
problems using very small surgical tools. The advantage of arthroscopy
over traditional open surgery is that it is much less invasive,
reducing trauma to connective tissue and reducing recovery time.
The
number of patients, both children and adults, suffering from spinal
problems is increasing. The toll taken in pain, suffering, disruption
of lifestyle, and loss of time at work is enormous. The Bangkok Spine
and Osteoporosis Clinic have highly trained physicians and a dedicated
support staff to treat these problems. When coupled with the centre's
technologically advanced equipment and techniques, they provide a
formidable weapon in the battle against spinal problems.
Conditions Treated by the Clinic
There
are a variety of medical conditions affecting the spinal column that
are treated by the Bangkok Spine and Osteoporosis Clinic. These include
the following:
(1)Problems caused by accidents; including sprains, dislocations and fractures.
(2)Treatment of spinal stenosis: the narrowing of the spinal canal and its related conditions.
(3)Treatment of herniated (ruptured) discs and related problems.
(4)Treatment of spinal osteoporosis.
(5)Treatment
of deformed spines in both children and adults, including scoliosis
(sideways curves of the spine) and kyphosis ("hunchback" or rounding of
the spine).
Deformed Thoracic vertebrae
(Scoliosis)
Following an operation to hold the Thoracic vertebrae using a metal rod, the vertebrae are nearly perfectly aligned
Deformed Lumbar Vertebrae
(Scoliosis)
Post-operative Lumbar Vertebrae with metal support (Anterior)
Fracture of Thoracolumbarspine
Post-operative image after metal hold was put in place. The patient was able to walk shortly following the operation
