Microdermabrasion techniques have been used for centuries to polish and refine the skin.
It can be used to diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks, scars, and discoloration. Microdermabrasion results in a bright, healthy glow and smooth, soft skin.
How is Microdermabrasion Performed?
Diamond microdermabrasion operates without the need for crystals. The exfoliation occurs when a diamond tipped head (or wand) abrades the skin surface. The dead skin cells are then sucked away from the face or body with a vacuum.
How Will I Feel Post-op?
Microdermabrasion does not require either a local or general anaesthetic. Most patients say microdermabrasion feels like an emery board or sandpaper rubbing on their skin. Some patients report feeling like they have a severe windburn or sunburn. A yellow, clear fluid drains from the sites which is normal and expected. The scabs are usually removed with moist wet packs.
What are the Risks and Benefits?
Infections can occur from picking at scabs. If that infection occurs, the patient may suffer more severe scarring and a worse overall result.
Am I a Candidate for Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is used on candidates with scarring related to acne, rosacea, tattoos, chicken pox, scars, skin growths, multiple pigmented birthmarks, blotchy brown or liver spots, keloids and sun damaged skin. The procedure is also used on candidates to remove wrinkles around the chin and mouth.
What are the Long Term Effects?
Repeat treatments may be needed for required results, but most patients are satisfied with their results.
